Using sweeping, vertical and horizontal strokes of the palette knife, I loosely depicted the buildings, street, and other architectural elements, leaving some areas untouched to create contrast and highlight the rain-soaked surfaces.
Upon studying the painting, I decided to add a touch of color to create a focal point, so I grabbed my paint brush and painted a woman in red holding an umbrella.
To emphasize the rain, I added reflections of the city lights on the ground around her, and loosely constructed some rain drops to add some depth and interest to the overall composition.
Finally, I took a step back to view my painting.
The bold, textured strokes of my palette knife combined with the contrast of the black and white captured the dark mood, and the pop of red added to the atmosphere of a rainy cityscape with a touch of intrigue and emotion.

Thank you! I knew the painting would be way too bland without a little color. It still came out on the dark side, but I had fun using the pallet knife regardless. Must be all those rainy days we get in April! 🦋🌸🌼😊

I used to love drawing as a child, but it was nothing spectacular. I had known two young people growing up around my age who had a natural talent for drawing without having been trained. All they really needed to do was develop their skills more.
But yes! There are classes to take for those interested and I would love to get involved!❤

Try checking out YouTube for free tutorials. I know Brad’s Art School for beginners has some good lessons on drawing and there are others. For painting lessons, try Michelle the Painter or Joni Young Art. 🦋😊

I think u draw this painting in blacks and white but a colourful person in the middle shows that person is trying to fight the odds to win

We have a lot in common. Most of my paintings are monochrome and I’m drawn to black and white. People describe them as Goth, so I decided not to post them on my blog. They do sell well though, so people do like them.

This is a really good cityscape. I love the contrast. Really gives you a feeling of walking in the rain surrounded by grey buildings and a gloomy sky. The emotion is there and that’s what matters the most

Thank you for your kind words!😊Funny story, I had another artist tell me rudely that I am not a “real” artist unless I can prove I can do an abstract. I couldn’t stand the thought of doing the ordinary so I created this cityscape. It sold the first week I put it up for sale and he hasn’t spoken to me since! 😂 I guess I proved him wrong. Not that it was a contest…it is just art.😉

You’re very welcome 😊. I don’t know what it is with artists and their obsession with the abstract. I think a real artist should be able to paint things that aren’t abstract. I’m not criticising the abstract, and there are different types of it, but I believe that there are many artists who can’t paint anything other than the abstract. I often wonder if they’re painters at all lol. I’m glad this sold. Your artist friend sounds like a very jealous person who thinks he knows it all. You definitely proved him wrong and more 😂
