Whenever I tried something new I used to feel overwhelmed and anxious over my fear of failing, to the point where it would cause me to stand in my own way, and eventually I would give up.
I now realize that the most important thing is to let those fears go. That anything in life worth doing is worth doing badly at first. I may even argue that it’s the doing that makes one successful.
Now I enjoy the very process of trying something new. I’m not quick to judge myself because I recognize that trying something new involves a learning curve.
I accept that mistakes and setbacks are part of the journey and view them as opportunities to grow and learn. I’ve developed a growth mindset to help myself overcome my fears, and I’ve become more resilient in my pursuits.
By challenging myself and embracing new experiences, I am able to expand my horizons and lead a more fulfilling life.
I love this : “That anything in life worth doing is worth doing badly at first.”

Glad you liked it! So many people are afraid to try new things because they fear they won’t be good at it, sadly, without a change in that mindset life will pass them by. I appreciate your comment! 🦋

Thank you, John! I hear from so many that they could never do “fill in the blank” but it’s so important for people to get out there and try it anyway. Life is too short to be afraid. 🌻

Truly empowering. I think this can apply to every area of life where we’re found procrastinating and wondering if we should do it.
For me is sketching, driving… I know I have to do these things and yet I keep postponing them. One day!
Thanks for sharing and have a great week! ☀️🌼

Thank you, Katherine. I agree that this message is relevant to many aspects of life.
Don’t postpone sketching or driving, time goes by so fast and before you know it you will have wished you had done those things sooner! 🦋🌻

I’ve got the doing badly part done for painting with acrylics. I could barely get past the surprise that nobody warned me about Cadmium Yellow. I thought yellow is yellow, but it’s not when it comes to pigments. I kept getting clashes until I realized that one yellow tube was really yellow-green, and the other tube was yellow-orange. I saw it clearly when one brand of paint had a spectrum diagram on the side of the tube. Anyway, I felt betrayal after betrayal until I realized I had no talent and no teacher available for no-talent students.

Ha ha, I have to agree with you that color theory in painting is more challenging than color theory in every day life. The different pigments presented in the different brands of paint can definitely throw a new painter a curve ball.
I’m going to disagree with you on your last thought. I think there are good teachers, and I know for a fact that you are more than capable of being a good student because of how astute and intelligent you are. You can always give painting another shot. Think about how much you have learned already!

I’m so glad you’ve reached this point in your artistic journey! I’m trying to do the same thing, but I’m not always as successful in remembering growth is painful and necessary. We are our own biggest critics and it can be hard sometimes to see our own growth. You inspire me!

It takes time to develop the mindset that it’s okay to feel challenged in what we are trying to achieve. You are right, we are our own biggest critics. I’m not sure if that will ever change because it’s a trap that’s too easy to fall into.
Hope you have a beautiful day!

Powerful words and well spoken. I have always adored painting. I watched my grandmother take on her masterpieces when I was a child. I wish I would have let her teach me. She once did this winter cabin scene on a saw canvas for my dad. I wish I could get that piece back. Especially seeing have both have got their wings now.

Thank you for sharing your memory of your grandmother and her work. Art is a beautiful way to share a connection. I’m sorry you can’t get the piece back, and more sorry for your losses. By any chance do you have a photo of that cabin scene?
